Dean/Provost Conversation during College Planning and Budget process
This consultation will give consideration to the appropriateness and priority of the program in the long-range development of the University.
- Does the request have funding implications? If so, the request requires unit reflection for budget projections and planning and must follow normal administrative channels.
- Are there any academic policy implications?
- Is the program academically sustainable?
- Does the request involve teacher certification?
- Are approvals/signoffs required? These should be requested via the online request form.
- If submitting a new academic program, is Statewide Academic Program Review required? (About 10% require review)
Note: The Office of the Provost is required to submit materials to the President's Council of State Universities of Michigan Office six weeks prior to the meeting at which the proposal is considered; the Academic Affairs Officers Committee meets four times a year.
Lack of Dean/Provost Conversation
To align academic planning and curricular change, ALL requests for NEW funds must be included in the College's annual planning letter.
Failure of the Dean to consult with the Provost will halt the process at step 5. until the Provost has determined that consultation can occur with the Dean of The Graduate School, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and others as appropriate.
